The W.L. Lyons Brown III Innovation Laboratory, or i.Lab at UVA, provides programming, workspace, mentoring, funding, and additional resources to support entrepreneurs and innovators both on and beyond UVA Grounds.
A University of Virginia-wide effort, the i.Lab is the result of a collaboration among 11 schools at UVA, the Provost’s Office and the Office of the Vice President for Research.
A key initiative of the i.Lab is the Incubator Program. Initially open only to Darden students, this program is now open by application each year to early stage companies and entrepreneurs regardless of their affiliation with the University.
Since the first cohort of 12 ventures in 2000, the i.Lab’s Incubator program has now provided more than $1.25 million in aggregate grant support to more than 225 new ventures and 425 founding team members.
The total value of subsequent capital raised by the participating ventures now approaches 80 times the total value of the initial seed grants provided by the program.
